Steyning set on blooding the youngsters

Steyning captain Dave Kennett is aiming for a top-five finish in 2016 in a season of blooding new youngsters.

He will be assisted by new vice captain Hywell Jones and they aren’t expecting to lose any players from last season.

Ahead of their campaign in Division 3, they will start winter nets at Portslade Leisure Centre on February 10, with potential new players welcome.

Kennett is currently looking in to an overseas player at the moment that is the right fit for the club.

He said: “Our aim for the season is to finish in the top five and bring a few youngsters in to first team cricket.

“We have a couple of young players with great potential so will be hoping they can step up this season and cement their place in the team.

“We felt we underachieved last season so we will be looking to start well and get the confidence high.

“As for our second team, (who will be captained by Andy Simmons) they had a great first season in Division 2 so they will be hoping for much of the same and they’re a young team so it’s great experience for them playing regularly in a decent standard of cricket.”
