The squad fly out to the UAE and will play initially in the Emirates Airline T20 2014 Tournament, attempting to defend the title they have won for the past two seasons.
In this year’s campaign they will take on Lancashire Lightning in the semi-final, and in a potential final would face either the MCC, who can name Muttiah Muralitharan amongst their ranks, or a KPL XI from the UAE domestic league.
The tour’s primary objective though will once again be preparing the squad for four-day cricket with a programme of training sessions planned, culminating in a two-day game against Lancashire.
There will also be two 50-over matches, against MCC Universities and MCC Young Cricketers.
There are a few omissions to Sussex’s squad due to the ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh where Chris Jordan and Luke Wright are with the England squad, whilst skipper Ed Joyce represents Ireland.
Chris Nash remains at home to recover from a ruptured appendix having been ruled out of the early games of the season.
He is replaced by young seamer Matthew Hobden in the tour party who will be aiding his own recovery from a shin injury and is unlikely to be available for selection.
Matt Prior will be with the squad for part of the trip and will be available for the Emirates T20.
The squad is as follows:
JE Anyon, WAT Beer, BC Brown, HZ Finch,RJ Hamilton-Brown, LJ Hatchett, CJ Jackson, J Lewis, CJ Liddle, MW Machan, SJ Magoffin, SA Piolet, MJ Prior, LWP Wells, MH Yardy, SAA Zaidi.
