Sussex Cricket League: Cummins’ 92 helps Cuckfield top the Premier

Cuckfield top the Sussex Premier League table with 89 points after beating Horsham on Saturday (writes Lewis Smith).

Tom Cummins scored 92 to help them towards their 223-7 total, while Horsham finished the day with 154 all out.

Roffey put pressure on the leaders with a comfortable 108-run victory over Three Bridges. Kuldeep Rawat made an impact in this one, scoring 62 towards Roffey’s 216 total.

East Grinstead beat Brighton and Hove by a staggering 9 wickets.

East Grinstead won the toss and decided to bowl first in a game that was highlighted by Lewis Hatchett’s 5 for 32 and Flynn Hudson-Prentice’s 3 for 6.

Eastbourne and Bexhill’s encounter at The Saffrons ended in a draw, as did Preston Nomads’ (195 all out) game with Hastings Priory (159-8), in which Rebecca Silk made her Sussex Premier League debut for the Nomads.

In Division 2, Middleton batted first and moved above the pack with a three-wicket win over Billingshurst.

Worthing were able to move to second in the division when they beat Findon by one wicket.

St James’ Montefiore find themselves in third place after a weekend draw with 9th-placed Lindfield.

Crowhurst Park beat Goring By Sea by 19 runs. Crowhurst scored 135 while their opponents fell short with 119.

Chichester Priory looked to start a move up the table when they beat Ifield by 6 wickets. Beck Hemmingway stood out and scored 55 not out for Chichester.

In Division 3, Crawley Eagles captured a place at the top of the table when they beat Ansty on the road by one wicket.

Pagham (172 all out) beat Glynde and Beddingham (73 all out) by 99 runs. For Pagham Thomas Kent took 5 for 8. For Glynde, Dale Tranter took 5 for 36.

Rottingdean dominated Pulborough, beating them by 5 wickets. Rottingdean decided to bowl first and did enough damage to make their task a simple one.

Burgess Hill beat Stirlands by 162 runs. The visitors elected to bat first, and Struan Cameron hit 101, essentially putting the game beyond Stirlands.

Haywards Heath (195-8) drew with Bongor Regis (229-8), and Haywards heath remain third in the table.

In Division four, Steyning (205-9) won their fourth consecutive game by thumping Lewes Priory (62 all out) by 143 runs.Second-placed Slinfold beat Keymer and Hassocks by two wickets, while Henfield hosted Crawley and won by a comprehensive 116 runs.

Wisborough Green (143) beat Rye (61) by 82 runs to earn a position in the top half of the table. Elsewhere in the division, Hellingly and Porstlad played to a draw.

In the second XI Division two, St James’ Montefoire are top after beating Haywwards Heath, Worthing beat Cuckfield, Chichester Priory drew with Ifield, Middleton drew with Pagham and Goring By Sea beat Ansty.

Over in the 2nd Division (West) Steyning showed why they are the league leaders with an 87-run win over Billingshurts.

Crawley Eagles soundly beat Henfield, Bognor Regis drew with Slinfield, and mid-table Portslade beat bottom-of-the-table Stirlands.
