SUSSEX CRICKET LEAGUE ROUND-UP DIVISIONS 3-4: Wins for Bognor, Crawley Eagles, Chichester, Glynde, Henfield, Slinfold, Crawley & Rye

In Division 3 there were wins for Bognor Regis, Crawley Eagles, Chichester Priory and Glynde & Beddingham.

Ryan Maskell scored an unbeaten 103 and Elliott Clarke hit 73 to help Bognor reach a mammoth 249-5.

Joe Ashmore then took 6-20 as top of the Bognor bowled out Haywards Heath for 157 to record a 92-run victory and became the early leaders.

Crawley Eagles gained a four-wicket victory against Burgess Hill.

Rilwan Mohamed took 5-31 as Eagles restricted Hill to 168 all out, for whom Jack Simpson topscored with 66 and Joe Maskell added 47.

Amaar Suddazahai made 54 and Tayyab Mahmood 26 in Eagles’ reply as they reached 169-6 from 39.5 overs.

Dan Weigl starred with both bat and ball to mastermind Chichester Priory’s four-wicket win against Rottingdean.

He smashed a brilliant 84 not out in 78 balls and also took 4-54 as Chichester made 209-6 in reply to Rottingdean’s 207-5 declared.

Opening batsman Alex Thornhill produced a match-winning 93 and Chris Baker supported with a fast 71 in 78 balls to pave the way for Glynde to beat Goring By Sea by 28 runs and took the maximum 30 points.

Glynde made an impressive 241-4 before Goring were dismissed for 213 and went away with 5 points. Their topscorers were Alex Maynard and Barnaby Lyons who both scored 70. Glynde’s Louis Barron took 4-37.

Steyning’s Ben Shellford crafted 85 and shared a third wicket stand of 112 with Oliver Collins (55) as their side made 204-8 declared.

Paul Glover took 4-48 for Portslade at stumps were 202-9 with Tom Mooney topscoring with 71 in a drawn match.

In Division 4 there were wins for Henfield, Slinfold, Crawley and Rye.

Henfield gained their first win of the season when they beat Stirlands by 66 runs.

Jack Parsons took 3-26 as Henfield dismissed Stirlands for 148, for whom No.8 batsman Jon Phillmore hit 48.

Earlier Phillmore had taken the most wickets for his side, 3-54 as Henfield set a target of 214-8 declared. Tom Paine was topscorer with 35.

Slinfold gained their second successive victory when they overcame Keymer & Hassocks by 17 runs.

But they struggled with the bowling of Keymer’s Lee Pittavino who a brilliant 7-43. Slinfold’s opneing batsman Craig Skilton managed to stay in to make 50 and overseas player Akeem Jordan added 30 as they set a total of 149 all out.

That proved to be enough as Akeeem (4-54) joined with his captain Guy Thorne (4-23) to rattle through the Keymer reply for just 132. Opening batsman John Poole scored 75.

Crawley’s Indian overseas player Kunal Kapoor shone with an excellent unbeaten 91 to set up their second win of the season, beating Mayfield by three wickets.

After winning the toss Mayfield batted and put on 200-7 declared with Edward Finch their topscorer with an unbeaten 36, while for Crawley, Paul Clifford took 4-31.

Crawley reached their target for the loss of seven wickets in 44.3 overs. Marno Pretorius took 3-73.

Hellingly and Southwater fought out a draw. Southwater batted first and made 253-8 declared with good innings by Danny Humphreys (63 not out, including five sixes) and Nick Baker 53.

Dan Pellett took 4-51 for Hellingly.

Southwater’s opening bowler Dan Skett took 5-52 but this was not enough to dismiss Hellingly who at stumps were on 164-9. Steve Hook stood out with 52.

Rye beat Wisborough Green by 53 runs in a low-scoring game.

They set a target of 90 all out after Nick Baron caused havoc with the ball, taking 5-17 off ten overs.

Kshermal Waingankar bagged 5-21 and Harry Smeed 3-3 as Rye then dismissed Wisborough for a miserly 37.
