Sussex Cricket League round-up - July 9: Horsham go top of Premier Division as Bognor hold East Grinstead

It was all change at the top of the Sussex Cricket League Premier Division as Horsham and Roffey leapfrogged East Grinstead into first and second place respectively.

Horsham (261/8) went top after beating Hastings and St Leonards (260 all out) by two wickets with just one ball to spare.

Mitch English (75) and Ryan Hoadley (52) top scored for Hastings while Tom Johnson (67) and Will Beer (73) were Horshams maim contributors.

Roffey (281/5) are second after a comprehensive 136 run win over Brighton (145 all out) who dropped into the relegation zone.

Theo Rivers carried his bat for 120 not out while Usman Khan hit a quickfire 56 for Roffey.

It was then Jas Bassan whole stole the show with the ball with a brilliant spell of 8-49 from 21 overs.

East Grinstead (180/9) had to settle for a draw with in-form Bognor (220/9). Bognor were struggling at 136/8 but an unbeaten 51 from number 10 Ben Woolnough saw them to 220.

In reply Tom Haynes hit 52 as Joe Ashmore took 5-42.

Eastbourne (186/8) jumped out of the relegation zone with a two wicket win over Preston Nomads (184/9).

Ammad Khan (89) was the only Nomads batsman to get going as Matthew Pope and Jack Meacher took three wickets apiece.

Nav Patel took 6/52 in the reply but Jordan Turner hit 73 to help see Eastbourne home.

Three Bridges (266/7) and Middleton (296/9) played out a draw.

Harry Hovey (72) and Mason Robinson (57) top scored for Middleton while Sam Cooper (59) and Joe Walker (79 not out) were the main contributors for Bridges.

In Division 2, Haywards Heath (252 all out) remain top despite defeat to Mayfield (271/9).

Cuckfield (278/2) closed the gap with a dominant 103 run win over Mid Sussex rivals Burgess Hill (175 all out).

Nipun Karunanayake hit 104 and Ollie Graham 93 not out for Cuckfield.

Run machine Prasansana Jayamanne hit 86 not out in the reply but it was enough as Josh Hayward bowled Cuckfield to victory with 6/45.

Ben Lucking took 6/56 as West Chiltington (175/8) beat Findon (171 all out) by two wickets.

David Everett took 4-23 for Findon.

Lindfield (264/6) dominated their draw with St James’s Montefiore (160-8).

Jason Butler (50) and Farhad Raza (69) top scored for Lindfield. Hector Loughton hit 60 for St James’s as Simon Shivnarain took 4/32.

Oliver Dabinett-Jays hit an unbeaten 113 as Chichester Priory Park (225/7) drew with St Peters (272/9).

Rohan Doyle hit 59 and Max Wheatley 61 for St Peters as Thomas Drake Brockman took 6-103 for Chi.
