SUSSEX CRICKET LEAGUE ROUND-UP: Video highlights of Cuckfield v Roffey

An eight wicket win at Chichester has taken East Grinstead into second place. Cuckfield were held to a draw against Roffey and now lie fourth; Horsham, winners of a close game with Worthing are close behind. Three Bridges are bottom after a home defeat by Hastings.

Brighton and Hove tumbled to 76 all out at Preston Nomads in just 39 overs as Carl Simon ripped through the batting with figures of 6 for28. Tim Jarvis, with 26 was top scorer for the visitors. Nomads made short work of winning at 72 for 2 in 16.2 overs, Jimmy Anyon making 21 not out.

Chichester were bowled out for 140 by East Grinstead after deciding to bat as Sussex youngster Lewis Hatchett grabbed 6 for 60, Aussie Ashton Turner was top scorer, he made 40. In reply East Grinstead won at 141 for 2 with 45 from Tim Davey and 41 from skipper Phil Norman.

Horsham got back on the winning trail withn a two wicket win against Worthing who they bowled out for 205 despite 60 from opener Michael Gould. Worthing collapsed to 100 for 6 before Ian Gooding (46) and Andy Lutwyche (44) provided some respectability. Michael Munday took 6 for 60 before Sam Attfield (44), John Burroughs (36) and James Johnson (34) steered Horsham home at 208 for 8, Benn Challen took 4 for 88 and Luke Vinter 3 for 42.

Hastings won by five wickets at Three Bridges after bowling out the home side for 204 of which Victor Davies made top score of 49, Aussie Kyle Adcock took 3 for 46 and Jack Coleman 2 for 23 for Hastings. Freddie Hulbert with 66 not out and Tom Gillespie, who made 45, led Hastings to 205 for 5 as Davies took 3 for 61.

Roffey held on with 9 wickets down at Cuckfield where the home side made 206 for 7 declared with 74 from James Thorpe and 40 not out from Tom Mole. George Fleming took 3 for 56 and Rohit Jagota 2 for 36. In a Roffey total of 138 for 9 Michael Norris, following a transfer back to the club from Ifield, made 31 and Aaron Jeal 29. For Cuckfield Nick Patterson took 2 for 28 and Dev Maharaj 4 for 40.

DIVISION TWO

Goring have moved to the top of Division Two following a 75 run win against Ifield while previous leaders Eastbourne lost for the first time this season to close rivals Bexhill. The bottom two clubs, Pulborough and Glynde have yet to win a game this season.

Goring rattled up 246 for 9 declared at home to Ifield and bowled their visitors out for 171 to cement their top place. In that total Shane de Beer made 68 and the unlucky Elliott Woolley 99, to be run out going for the run that would have given him the century. For Ifield Russell Jacob took 4 for 86 and, when they batted, Raza Ali forged a one man cause as he carried his bat for 118 not out. Matt Keen took 3 for53 and de Beer completed a good game with figures of 5 for 63.

At Bexhill the home side enjoyed a big 106 run win against near neighbours and promotion rivals Eastbourne. Batting first Bexhill made 247 for 4 of which Jon Haffenden made 91 not out and Cameron Burgon 37. In reply Aussie youngster Andrew Williams took 5 for 50 and young off-spinner John Beeslee took 4 for 32. Keeper Jack Richardson grabbed four catches while, for Eastbourne, John Goddard made 36 and Martin Garnett 35 as they tumbled to 141 all out.

Findon recorded their third win in six starts with a three wickets triumph at St.James’s who they restricted to 165 for 9 declared of which Tayyab Mahmood made 46 and Adam Davies 45. For the visitors Toby Kingsbury took 5 for 41 and James Iago 3 for 6. Andy Crossland then made 49, Jack Metters 37 and Kingsbury 31 not out to take their side home at 167 for 7, Mike Edmonds took 5 for 55.

At Pulborough vistors Crowhurst Park won by a massive 131 runs after making an impressive 235 for 5 declared. Dale Payne made 81 and Clive Tong 76 towards that total. The home side then crashed to 104 all out in 25.5 overs as Paul Brookes took 4 for 50.

Glynde cruised to 291 for 5 declared at Middleton with 101 from skipper Dominic Shepheard and 82 from Archie Burrows. In reply the home side finished way short of their target at 225 for 6 and the match was drawn.

DIVISION THREE

EAST

Lindfield maintained their position at the top of Division 3 East after seeing off visitors Crawley in a low scoring game. Lindfield could only reach159 after being asked to bat with James Pearce top scoring with 34 not out. Crawley fell short at 120 with Nathan Bell taking 4-11.

Ansty moved into second spot after another woeful afternoon for Lewes Priory at the Sussex University. Priory were unable to field a full side and were shot Out for just 39 as Jack Palser took 6-7. Ansty won by 9 wickets as the game lasted less than 40 overs.

Haywards Heath won another low scoring affair at Hellingly by 4 wickets after their hosts were dismissed for 143. James Pooley hit 68 but three wickets apiece for Callum Smith, Dan Strange and Davis Everett pegged them back. Strange then top scored with an unbeaten 48 as Heath completed the victory.

Rottingdean moved up two places in an increasingly congested mid table. 4-48 from Jon Golding saw Keymer & Hassocks restricted to 188. George Duplock made 68 but Rottingdean only lost two wickets in reply led by John Hobbs’ 58.

WEST

Billingshurst made it four wins in a row after a tight win at home to Steyning kept them at the head of Division 3 West. Steyning entered the final over as favourites needing four to win and two wickets in hand. Dhanushka Mitipolaarachchi, having hit 73 for the home side, then took the last Steyning wicket from the game’s final ball. Ed Lamb took 5-75 and Gary Hunt an unbeaten 63 as Steyning fell short of Billingshurst’s 202-9 by just three runs.

Stirlands made it five in a row after Pagham’s batting failed to make much headway and were 128 all out. Stuart Rutter’s 50 was countered by Struan Cameron’s 5-34. Stirlands completed a comfortable 7 wicket victory.

Crawley Eagles also completed a comfortable victory as Slinfold went down by 6 wickets. Adil Mustafa bagged 4-15 as Slinfold’s 128 never looked enough and the Eagles won by 6 wickets thanks mainly to Amaar Khan who hit 50.

Henfield and Wisborough Green played out a draw with Green finishing on 239-9. Byron Napper top scored with 60 while Brighton Muouchi took 4-44. Henfield closed on 200-9 with Greg Marshall taking 4-61.

Bognor won their first game of the season at Arundel passing a challenging 239-9 with around 10 overs to go. Sam Taylor dominated the reply with 151 and was assisted by Charlie Le Forret who struck 60. They won with over 10 overs to spare.
