Sussex League round-up (June 28)

In the Premier League, Brighton & Hove won by two wickets at home to Cuckfield.

The visitors scored 174-8 from their 58 overs as Nicholas Beard top-scored with 69. Jordan Rollings claimed 4-29 from eight overs for Brighton.

Brighton & Hove reached their target in 49.2 overs as Lucas Barker hit 37, Sam Grant struck 33 and Christoper Atherton scored 30. Beard took 5-51 from 20.2 overs for Cuckfield.

East Grinstead eased to a six-wicket win at home to Bexhill to move up to second place.

Brad Hatchett took 5-27 as Bexhill were all out for 95, before East Grinstead got home in just 18.4 overs.

Eastbourne won by one wicket away to Hastings. The hosts were all out for 200 as Leo Cammish struck 74 not out.

Dominic Shepheard top-scored with 79 in Eastbourne’s successful chase.

The top-of-the-table clash between leaders Roffey and Preston Nomads, who have now dropped to third, was abandoned, as was Three Bridges’ match at home to Horsham.

In Division 2, runaway leaders Middleton won by four wickets away to Chichester.

Chichester scored 167-9 from 53 overs, before Middleton reached their target after 38.1 overs.

Bottom-of-the-table Goring went down to a eight-wicket defeat at home to Billingshurst.

Goring were all out for 125 after winning the toss as Sam Thorns, who hit an unbeaten century the previous week, top-scored with 69.

Billingshurst got home in 20.2 overs as Stuart Barber smashed 66 not out from 53 balls and Dhanushka Mitipolaarachchi struck an unbeaten 43 off 28 deliveries.

In the only other completed game, second-placed St James’s drew at home to Crowhurst Park.

Adam Davies hit 101 not out as St James’s declared on 209-5 from 52.5 overs. Crowhurst Park finished their reply on 130-8 as Ed Smissen struck 63.

There was no play in the other two matches, between Lindfield and Worthing, and Ifield and Findon.

In Division 3, Ansty enjoyed a 21-run victory away to Bognor Regis.

Richard Smith top-scored with 55 as Ansty hit 236-8. Bognor were then all out for 215 as Samuel Adams and Glenn Anson claimed four wickets each.

Bottom-of-the-table Stirlands recorded their first win of the season with a 80-run win away to Pulborough.

William Gubbins scored 51 in Stirlands’ 180-8 as Imran Khan took 5-29 from 24 overs.

Pulborough were all out for 100 as Struan Cameron claimed 7-28.

Glynde & Beddingham won by six wickets away to Rottingdean.

George Ledden fired 73 in Rottingdean’s total of 155, before Stuart Mouland led Glynde home with an unbeaten 48.

Rain saw the match between second-placed Crawley Eagles and leaders Pagham abandoned and the game between Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill cancelled.

Leaders Steyning’s 100 per cent start to the season in Division 4 came to an end as their match at Wisborough Green was abandoned.

The hosts were 61-2 from 22 overs when play came to a close.

Elsewhere in the division, Keymer & Hassocks won by two wickets at home to Henfield.

The visitors were all out for 166, before Keymer & Hassocks got home in 41.5 overs.

Rye were 64-run victors at home to Hellingly. Rye were dismissed for 172 as David Pye took 4-38. Hellingly then crashed from 74-1 to 108 all out as Craig Pierce and Harry Smeed took four wickets each.

Slinfold were 46-1 from 7.4 overs at home to Portslade when play was abandoned, while Crawley were 73-6 at home to Lewes Priory when rain stopped play.
