Garton, an 18–year-old left-arm seamer from Brighton, made his Under-19s debut last summer in the Royal London One-Day Series against Australia. He will provide cover for Sam Curran, the Surrey left-armer who will miss the first week of the tournament in Sri Lanka – which also involves India – to minimise the disruption to his A-level studies at Wellington College in Berkshire.
Garton has already been attending the National Cricket Performance Centre in Loughborough this autumn having been included in the group of young bowlers on the Potential England Performance Programme, who are due to go to South Africa for warm weather training in January.

Hide AdGarton played for Horsham in the Sussex Premier League last season and before that played for Three Bridges.
Now he will join the Under-19s training camp in Loughborough later this month ahead of their departure for Colombo to face Sri Lanka and India in a tournament running from December 3-22.
Lancashire’s Haseeb Hameed will miss that camp having been given permission to travel independently to Mumbai to work on his game. He will link up with the squad in Colombo, and then plans to stay in Sri Lanka after the end of the triangular tournament.
Two more members of the England Under-19s squad, Nottinghamshire’s Tom Moores and Ryan Davies - who recently joined Somerset from Kent - will fly to the UAE this week to work with the England wicketkeeping coach Bruce French before joining the Loughborough camp.
