Three Bridges u15s had their ECB National Cup dream shattered after a six-wicket defeat to Sutton on Sunday.

Bridges, champions of Sussex, produced a brave performance against their strong opponents from Surrey but ultimately fell short in a titanic Twenty20 tussle.

Playing on home soil, Bridges won the toss and elected to bat first.

Openers George Cave and Krishan Nayee got the innings off to a positive start, before tight bowling from Freddie Boys, Shanaal Nathan and Rehan Ratnasapabathy applied the brakes.

Cave was eventually lbw to Nathan for 24 with the score on 48 and the same bowler dismissed Nayee for 34.

That brought Joe Walker and James Russell together and the pair accelerated the scoring rate.

Walker was eventually caught for a 20-ball 28, while Russell finished unbeaten on 26 from just 17 delieveries.

George Cook smashed a quickfire 12 not out at the end, which included one enormous six, as Bridges racked up an impressive 134-3 from their 20 overs.

Sutton got their reply off to a quick start and were immediately ahead of the asking rate.

A sharp run-out from Adam Sowton accounted for Jamin Patel but his opening partner Boys kept the innings ticking along as he made his way to an unbeaten 51.

Fit-again Archit Patel claimed two wickets to slow the scoring and Sowton weighed in with another.

But Sutton proved too strong in the end and a knock of 34 from captain Ratnasapabathy saw them home with three overs to spare.
