Time for Priory to push on

George Campbell, Harry Finch, Elliot Hooper and Kirk Wernars are expected to return for the trip to Roffey tomorrow (Saturday) which will mark the midway point in Priory’s Premier League campaign.

Vice-captain John Morgan said: “All the excuses about missing X, Y and Z are out the window; we’ve now got to put the performances together and get on another run like we did at the beginning of the season.”

After winning their first six contested Premier League matches (one of which is listed as an abandoned game as it was played under limited overs rules), Priory have lost their last two fielding weakened sides.

The upshot of that is Priory are 18 points behind leaders Preston Nomads, who beat them by five wickets last weekend, in second place and 23 ahead of third-placed Horsham.

“If you said to us at the beginning of the year we would be 18 points off the top at this stage, you wouldn’t have an arm left,” continued Morgan. “We’re pleased with that position, but we need to get back to those winning ways.”

Priory’s next two games are against top four sides, however, with the Roffey game being followed by a visit from Horsham. Roffey was the scene of the first of Priory’s two league defeats last season.

“We just didn’t rock up last year,” Morgan went on. “We’ve got a tricky two weeks against Roffey and then Horsham. But if we can get positive results from those, we know that we can put a run of five, six, seven wins together.”
