Tonderful Sean does the damage against Littlehampton

LITTLEHAMPTON Cricket Club failed to get enough runs on the board as they dropped points in the relegation battle by crashing to a nine-wicket defeat at Stirlands on Saturday.

Littlehampton were all out for just 144, before Sean Heather smashed an unbeaten 101 as they home side eased to victory for the loss of just one wicket.

The results sees Littlehampton fall 13 points behind fellow strugglers Wisborough Green, who drew at home to Bognor.

Littlehampton vice-captain Chris Heberlein said: “It was a hot, sunny day, so having won the toss we were always going to bat first.

“We were about 100 behind looking at the batting line-up we knew they had. Sean Heather is a phenomenal player and it was very hard trying to get him out.

“I dropped Stuart Hanks the first time round, before catching him later which may have given us a chance at another player.”

Michael Askew top-scored with 38 in Littlehampton’s innings, while Heberlein contributed 26 and Steve Godfrey 18 as Struan Cameron took 6-42 for Stirlands.

In reply, it was all fairly routine for the home side as Heather smashed 101 off 76 balls, with nine fours and six sixes, while former Littlehampton player Hanks assisted with 25 as the duo put on 119 for the opening wicket.

Heather then guided Stirlands to victory, along with Lewis Allan, as he recorded his fifth century of the season.
