Topp spins in as Bexhill captain

Chris Topp is the new captain of Bexhill Cricket Club.

The spinner was elected during the Sussex Division Two outfit’s Annual General Meeting at Traffers Bar last Friday night after John Haffenden decided not to stand.

Middle order batsman Haffenden has been in charge for the last three seasons, leading Bexhill to promotion from Division Two in 2009 only to be relegated from the Premier Division last summer.

Topp, a Premier Division title winner during his Hastings Priory days, previously held the reins in 2006 and 2007, leading Bexhill to a fifth place finish on both occasions.

Young talent Malcolm Johnson is vice-captain after the Sussex County Cricket Club coaches said during a conversation with Bexhill in the middle of 2010 they would like the left-hander to take on more responsibility.
