Tyrone tribute is big success

The life of Tyrone Wildman was celebrated by cricketers from all over the county at Sidley on Sunday.

A Tyrone Wildman XII played a Sussex Seniors XII in the Tyrone Wildman Memorial Cricket Match at an overcast and windy but dry Gullivers.

Around £700 was raised for Reilley House, a Bexhill-based day centre which Tyrone supported, largely thanks to a raffle which took place throughout the day.

After both teams observed a minute’s silence for Tyrone out in the middle, the Tyrone XII recovered from 13-2 to total 271-6 batting first in no small part due to Tim Dunn, who retired out on 110 from 117 balls.

Dunn shared in a third wicket partnership of 110 with Jeremy Wassell (57 from 58 balls) before Chris Hunnisett chipped in with 33 and John Barden struck 42 from 36 deliveries.

The Tyrone XII lost three wickets on their final total, two of them to Loyd Stickells. Sussex Seniors captain Neil Chitty also claimed two victims, and there was one each for openers Andy Shanks and Simon Briggs.

Sussex Seniors, a group of cricketers who played alongside Tyrone for the county at over-50 and over-60 level, reached their target at 274-5, Bexhill second teamer John Holland leading them home with 98 not out off 96 balls.
