Weekend cricket washed out by rain

Saturday’s Sussex Cricket League and East Sussex Cricket League programme was decimated by rain.

All the first XI fixtures in the Sussex League were abandoned and play didn’t even start in all bar two of them.

One of those two involved Sidley, who managed to squeeze in a Twenty20 away to Crawley with the winners taking 16 points and the losers 10 for the abandonment.

Sidley ran out comfortable victors by 89 runs to edge further clear at the top of the Division Three (East) table.

John Haffenden hit a fine 65 not out and fellow opener Peter King made 40 as Sidley chalked up 157-5 batting first.

Crawley slumped to 68 all out from 14.1 overs in reply with Scott Woodroffe taking 3-19, Paul Swannell 2-9, Neil Priddy 2-1 and Steve Ramsden 1-0.

Hastings Priory remain top of the Premier Division after their game at East Grinstead fell victim to the weather.
