Wernars hits ton in Priory draw

Kirk Wernars smashed a tremendous hundred as Hastings Priory had the better of their top-of-the-table clash on Saturday.

The South African talent, who is playing for Sussex in their LV County Championship match against Yorkshire currently, amassed 167 not out from 163 balls with 21 fours and two sixes.

County colleague Matt Machan made 76 from 70 and Harry Finch added 55 as Priory rattled up 318-3 from 55 overs having been given first knock at Horntye Park Sports Complex.

Nomads reached 241-7 in reply with Jack Parsons and Mick Glazier bagging two wickets each, meaning Priory extended their lead at the top of the Premier Division table to nine points.

Elsewhere, Bexhill lost by four wickets away to Worthing in Division Two. Bexhill scored 187-9 batting first thanks largely to a superb 109 from Tim Hambridge. Worthing got home fairly comfortably despite Mark Steketee taking 3-67.

Sidley won the Division Three (East) derby at home to Crowhurst Park by eight wickets. Martin Menezes top-scored with 78 as Park totalled 243 batting first, while Neil Priddy took 6-99.

Paul Swannell, who arrived late after being stuck on the M25, spearheaded Sidley’s successful run chase with an unbeaten 106. John Haffenden hit 62 and Priddy clubbed 70 not out. Ed Smissen took both wickets to fall.
