Wilson on gr-eight form as Ansty enjoy successful weekend

Jake Wilson took 8-48 as Ansty enjoyed another good weekend with the 1st, 2nd and 4th teams all winning.

1st XI

With another loss of the toss Ansty found themselves batting first at home to Bognor.

Harry Towler and Chris Barnes opened the innings but were soon back in the pavilion with the score on just 3.Lucas Barker departed with the score on 15 but Jethro Menzies and Jonny Young steadied the innings adding another 18 before Menzies was LBW for 18. Leo Anderson joined Young and set about restoring the home sides fortunes. The partnership of 49 ended as Anderson was caught for 31.

Young followed three runs later for 21 and with overseas player Jake Wilson out for 13 Ansty were 91-7. Not for the first time a cameo innings from Sam Palser of 35 helped Ansty to 145 at the close of the innings. For the visitors Graham Bush took 4-47 and Joe Ashmore 3-44.

In reply Bognor also found run making difficult against the home side attack losing 4 wickets for 30 all to the bowling of Jake Wilson. Opener Max Ashmore was holding the innings together but he departed caught off the bowling of Wilson for 37 with the score on 51. Another wicket fell at that score but an enterprising innings of 48 not out by Joe Ashmore saw the home side under pressure. Ashmore went on to score 48 not out but the visitors ended 18 runs short of victory. Wilson finished with excellent figures of 8-48 having bowled throughout the innings.

2nd XI

Having made the long journey to Rye Ansty found themselves batting first having lost the toss.

Megan Janman (8) and Tommy Green had added 14 when Green was bowled for 2. Stephen Rusling and Jake Brooks came together as Janman went with the score on 20 and put on 52 for the third wicket that of Rusling for 27. Three wickets fell in the nineties including Brooks for 22. Another of Ansty’s cameo innings came from Alex Beard who was last out for 23 with the score on 160.

Rye found themselves at 25-4 and 52-5 but the nerves of the Ansty team began to jangle as Spencer Fielding and Tobias Farrow each scored a 50. From 151-6 needing just 10 runs to win James Wilson mopped up the tail to bring about a win by 4 runs. Wilson followed last week’s performance with yet anotherexcellent toll of wickets, this time with 7-69.

3rd XI

The 3rd XI match against Palmers saw a plethora of runs. Put into bat a 151 run partnership between George Martin (93) and Aiden Janman (71) helped the home side declare on 235-4. Naseeri took 3-30 for the visitors.

Palmers reply started badly losing their first wicket without a run on the board. However from 59-4 Palmers rattled up a winning total of 236-4 thanks to an innings of 118no from Naseeri. For the home side Harry Layton took a couple of wickets with one apiece by Charlie Layton and Dom Mamoany.

4th XI

Away to Smallfield Ansty won the toss and asked the home side to bat first.

Newcomer Rob Targett took 5-27 as the Smallfield wickets tumbled. Early in the innings Phil Herbert had taken the first 3 wickets for just 3 runs off 4 overs. Smallfield were bowled out for just 105.

The reply in just 24.3 overs saw Ansty to victory by 8 wickets with Ken Chapman unbeaten on 58. Steve Jarvis made 38 before being stumped just 9 runs from the end.
