The Green finished bottom of their group - winning just once - in last season’s supplementary August Cup competition run by the Sussex Cricket League.

Wisborough Green’s first XI finished fifth in the last full league campaign back in 2019.

Green’s seconds narrowly missed out on a place in the August Cup C2 play-off final - finishing two points off group winners West Chiltington & Thakeham CC thirds - but finished bottom of Division 8 West.

Vickery said: “We are all very excited about the new season. I think we are all in need of some competitive sporting action after the long winter lockdown.

“The first team are aiming to be competitive this year, consolidating our position in the league with a top-half finish.

“We also have an ambition to bring through some of our younger players to the first XI and get north of the 342 points we got in 2019.

“For the seconds, after being relegated in 2019, we are aiming to bounce straight back up. We need the team to perform at a higher level.”

With the emphasis on youth development this campaign, there have been no major incomings at the Green doing the closed-season.

But the club have confirmed the departure of two members of last season’s squad.

Vickery added: “No big signings have been made this year but we have big hopes for some of the new players that joined us last summer in their first competitive season. Our promising colts are all a year older and coming through well.

“I am really looking forward to seeing how James Janion, Matt Watts, Tom Dawson and Ollie Stott go this year.

“Henry Sunderland, a promising prospect from our colts a few years ago, will be vice-captain for our seconds which is a great opportunity for him to continue to develop.

“We have lost Jordan Bell to Southwater and Tom Malcolm has returned to New Zealand. Both will be a loss to the squad.”
