World famous MCC pay visit to Rye

Marylebone Cricket Club, better known as the MCC, paid a visit to The Salts as part of Rye CC’s 260th anniversary celebrations.

Rye CC honorary secretary Martin Blincow said: “It went very, very well. The MCC were really entertained by the day and they were very happy.”

The MCC have been coming to Rye every couple of years since helping to mark the club’s 250th anniversary in 2003. Tuesday’s match was an all day affair with lunch provided for players and guests, and a curry supper in the evening courtesy of The Gandhi Tandoori.

The MCC totalled 229-6 batting first in a match sponsored by Rush, Witt & Wilson thanks largely to the excellence of Jersey batsman Dean Morrison, who had completed his century before his team had scored 150. Craig Pierce took 2-50 and Blincow 2-48 for Rye.

Jackson Woodcock top-scored with 30 as the hosts, who fielded a mixture of first, second and third team players, were all out for 149 in reply against an MCC attack containing a very sharp Durham MCCU opening bowler. Afterwards the MCC presented a plaque to Rye in recognition of the club’s longevity.
