Any potential new members would be welcome to attend the game.

The club has 11 lawns and, with the increasing demands of regional, national and international fixtures, they needed to be refurbished. The first three were stripped and re-seeded last autumn and the remainder will be dealt with over the next two years.

The winter programme alternate stroke doubles was won by Brian Maddocks and Ian Cobbold from Cheam. Several singles competitions also took place and on Sunday there will be a charity one-ball competition, from which the winner goes to a national competition at Winchester.

This year’s major tournaments include the Inter-County Championship (May 23 to 26) in which 22 teams compete in two divisions over four day’s of association croquet.

The other top-level association croquet event is the European Championship in September.

The British Open Golf Croquet Championship, from June 16 to 21, usually includes a strong field of international players, while the Golf Croquet Inter-County Championship is in September.

Anyone interested in trying the sport can contact Clive Hayton on 07717 058833 to arrange a free tuition.
