Darts: If there's a challenge on the oche, Paula won't Duckett

The Bognor Friday Night League's mixed pairs knockout at the town's Royal British Legion attracted 26 pairs to set up a busy night '“ and surprise results were on the cards.

Last year’s champions and summer champions Carol and Sam Abrehart made it to the semi-finals despite nearly losing to Chichester duo Babs Hills and Arthur Clark.

The longest-serving league member John Mace and his partner Lorraine Richie made their way to the semis after beating last year’s losing finalists Hayley and Chris Gatford in the first round.

Chichester’s Mazz Tupper and Keith Robinson made their way to the semi-finals while Paula Duckett and Gary Blackwood dominated their part of the draw. They had no problem making their way to the last four despite a good fight from Debbie and Ashley Clements.

In the first semi-final, Mace and Richie lost to the Abreharts, making it to their fourth mixed pairs final in four years. In the second semi-final, Tupper and Robinson couldn’t keep up with Duckett and Blackwood who confidently made it through.

The final was all about who wanted it most. The Abreharts, trying for a hat-trick of titles, missed out on the first leg, Duckett and Blackwood taking it with ease.

The second leg was the Abreharts’ for the taking but missed doubles let them down, allowing Duckett and Blackwood to take the title. It was the second time for Duckett, who won the title in 2006-07, and the first time for Blackwood.
