Darts: League's singles silverware contested by dozens

THE divisional singles knockouts in the Friday Night Summer League took place at the Bognor British Legion and, with 61 players involved from three divisions, it was a busy night.

The first division-one semi-final saw Dave Owens (POW Z) take on Sam Abrehart (POW Z). Owens didn’t manage to get past his team-mate.

The second semi was between Harry Annals (Wheatsheaf) and Debbie Clements (Richmond A). Clements, the only female player to reach the semis, was trying to get revenge on Annals who beat her husband in the previous round. But it wasn’t to be.

Looking to make up on the previous week’s poor performance in the secretaries’ knockout, Abrehart made beat Annals 2-0 and become singles champion.

In division two the first semi-final saw Ian Hills (Chi Snooker A) take on Buster Barton (Claremont Cobras). Barton was on form and won easily.

The second semi saw Friary D team-mates John Mace and Dave Wingate go head to head, and despite chances by Mace, it wasn’t enough to put out Wingate.

Barton was on form in the final, hitting a 180 in the second leg, but Wingate had chances. Barton took the division-two title.

The first semi-final in division three saw last week’s captains’ winner Adi Linfield (Chi Snooker C) face Rob Tite (BRSA B). Tite had already taken out the captains’ runner-up and was looking for a double - but it wasn’t to be.

Linfield was too strong and made his way to the final.

The second semi saw Lewis Campling (Newtown SC X) take on George Knight (Chi Snooker C). Campling fared well but Knight made the final.

That pitted the captain and secretary of Chi Snooker C against one another.

Linfield surged ahead to win the first leg. The second leg should have been his too, but missed doubles gave the win to Knight. The third leg was all down to the doubles, with Linfield failing at the third attempt to allow Knight to take his double and the division-three singles title.
