DaSH lads win sporting award

Denton and South Heighton's youngest side in training - the under-6s - made their parents and coaching team proud when they attended their only summer tournament at Sedlescombe and walked away with the sportsmanship trophy.

All of the matches were marked out of ten and the tiny squad did not drop a single point.

The tournament organiser was pleased to hand over the trophy to DaSH as he said they had truly impressed him with their excellent attitude and determination. Each member of the team also received a commemorative trophy for playing.

DaSH went into the Peacehaven Tournament with high hopes and with a positive attitude.

They progressed into the quarter-finals from a tough group that included teams from Hangleton, Patcham, Woodingdean and Peacehaven.

DaSH faced Hangleton in the quarters in a hard-fought game. DaSH set out positively and almost broke the deadlock when Liam Dolan crashed the ball against the crossbar.

The game ended 0 - 0 and penalties followed. With DaSH trailing 3-1 before goalkeeper Sam Boyes pulled off a couple of great saves and the scores were level. Matt Barlow slotted home his sudden death penalty and the semi-final beckoned.

This brought a match against Woodingdean and DaSH progressed to the final following a cagey affair and an unfortunate own goal by the Woodingdean defence.

Whitehawk, most people's pre-tournament favourites, were DaSH's final opposition. Defenders Ryan Dinnage and Frankie White, who had been brilliant all day, had to be on top form to keep out the Hawks's strike force, but DaSH pushed on and got stronger the longer the game went with fitness telling.

Peter Carden, Alex Gower and Connor Jones were inspirational in midfield and the Hawks were unable to break down a resilient DaSH defence. The game ended 0-0 and penalties loomed again. Once more DaSH kept their nerve to win the shootout 3-1.
