Zhang didn’t pot a ball in the next two frames, however, as Davis levelled at 3-3 aided by a magnificent run of 130 in frame six.

The 24-year-old Zhang clinched frames seven and eight, the latter with a break of 80, to guarantee himself an advantage at the end of the session before Davis took the ninth with a 63.

World seniors champion Davis edged the first frame of the second session yesterday (Monday) afternoon to level at 5-5, but it was all-Zhang thereafter.

Zhang opened up an 8-5 lead at the interval with the help of a 51 break in frame 12 before rattling through the final two frames in a single visit with runs of 80 and 81.
