Davis earns another shot at World Champ

Mark Davis has set up another showdown with reigning world snooker champion John Higgins.

The St Leonards potter will take on world no.3 Higgins in round one of the German Masters at the start of February.

World no.17 Davis previously faced Higgins at the same stage of the Shanghai Masters during September and was on the wrong end of a 5-2 scoreline.

Davis, 39, preserved his record of reaching the venue stage of every ranking event so far this season by beating Michael White 5-2 in the German Masters Qualifiers last night (Friday).

The former Six Reds World Champion compiled breaks of 112 and 101 in defeating the same player he saw off 6-2 in the corresponding round of the UK Championship Qualifiers earlier this month.

Bexhill-based Jimmy Robertson, the world no.50, lost 5-0 to 64th-ranked Adrian Gunnell in the penultimate round having previously received a walkover against Bjorn Haneveer.

Both players will now turn their attention to Players Tour Championship event 10, also taking place at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield, at the start of next week.
