Day staying put says Sidley boss

SIDLEY UNITED joint manager Andy Laskey has confirmed that Adam Day is staying at Gullivers.

Doubt spread over the talented midfielder's future after it was reported in another newspaper that he had signed for ambitious Ryman League Division One South leaders Lewes.

But Day made a goalscoring appearance for United in their 6-0 John O'Hara Cup mauling of Haywards Heath Town on Saturday and while not one to prevent a player from bettering himself, Laskey maintained the disturbing revelation was a false alarm.

He explained: "He played for the reserves against Lewes on a Friday night (August 22) because he had a family wedding the next day. The Lewes boss (Steven King) was watching and he put a seven-day letter in for him. They phoned up because they had a midweek friendly against Crystal Palace and they asked for Adam to come and play in it. We didn't want to stop him, he played the first half and he's had no contact with them since then. He's more than happy to stay with us and we definitely wouldn't want him to leave."

Meanwhile, Sidley begin their home programme in earnest with two demanding fixtures over the next week. Horsham YMCA visit on Saturday September 13 before Hailsham Town provide the opposition on Tuesday evening, kick-off 7.45pm.

Kevin Rose returns from suspension and Owen Ball (hamstring) is expected to be fit while Brad Poole (heel) is on the verge of a comeback. Mat Ball was due to train every day this week and could recover in time to make Tuesday night.
