Deadly Digweed lands another title

Shooter George Digweed has won an incredible 13th European FITASC Championship title.

The Northiam-based gunman won the title at Konopiste, near Prague last weekend with a total of 191/200.

Digweed shot 49/50 on day one and 48/50 on day two. A total of 47/50 on the third day left him in joint first place with Frenchman Bastien Havart on 144/150. Englishman Andy White and Spanish shooter Juan Valero sat on 143, setting up an intriguing final day.

Deteriorating weather conditions meant anybody ‘north’ of 140 had a realistic chance of victory. Both Digweed and Havart started fairly early on the last day, each of the men posting 22/25 and effectively opening the door for the following pack.

However in day four’s second round, a 21/25 from Havart saw him end on 187, while an excellent 25 straight from Digweed saw him finish four targets better off. Another Frenchman, Charles Bardou, ended on 188/200 to pip Havart to the silver medal.

Digweed has the defence of his European Compak title in Italy to look forward to during June before the Clay Shooting Classic and British Compak Grand Prix at the beginning of July.

During his long career Digweed has won 20 World titles (11 Sporting, eight Fitasc and one Compak), 17 European titles (13 Fitasc and four Compak), four European Compak titles and 10 World Cups. He has also been honoured with an MBE from Buckingham Palace.
