Defeat is a sickener for Shepherd

SOUTHWICK FC player-manager Dominic Shepherd was proud of his side after they suffered last-minute heartbreak at Division 1 Chichester on Tuesday.

Wickers had fought back from 2-0 down to 2-2 but when Chris Kelsey failed to get distance on a punch in the last minute, Jake Lafferty poked home Chichester's winner.

Daniel Turner and Steve Boston's penalty had given Chichester a 2-0 advantage in 12 minutes. Wickers were unhappy, though, with both goals. They believed Turner was offside and that Harry Constable had been fouled before he gave away the spot-kick.

Southwick pulled a goal back with a penalty of their own on 28 minutes. Paul Elliott was brought down and defender Lee Thompson scored from the spot. Thompson is taking Wickers' penalties after winning a competition in training, following misses by Grant Bean and Archie Macacbie this season.

Wickers were level three minutes before half-time. Paul Elliott slid through Nick Green, who fired home via a post.
