Departing Horsham FC manager Simon Colbran explained that travelling and the workload are the reasons behind his shock departure from the club.

The resignation was announced earlier this afternoon (Friday November 15).

Colbran said: “For the last five weeks, it has felt like a full-time job and I was working out of hours.

“I have got two businesses to run as well, and I was working a 30 hour week as a full-time manager, and when that starts to get to you it is difficult.

“The travelling was difficult and if I was local I would probably have stuck with it. It got a bit too much in the end and it was the right time to go.”

Colbran stressed his ‘love’ for the club, and proudly discussed his achievements since taking over as manager in March 2012.

He said: “I love the club - I love everything about it and it was a really difficult decision.

“When I took over it felt like the club was so depressed, at the bottom of the Ryman Premier and hadn’t won a game for weeks. We won our first game, and I will always remember that.

“What I am proud about is I think I have put Horsham in a better position than when I took over, and I really hope they carry on moving forward and get back to where they deserve to be.”

Colbran thanked assistant manager Gary Charman, coaches Rob Frankland and Ian Varley, and members of the board such as Kevin Borrett, John Lines and Annie Raby.

He described Andi Marfleet as ‘the best physio I have worked with’, and lifetime president Frank King as ‘the nicest person you will ever meet’.

He added: “The supporters are brilliant - Horsham should be proud to have supporters like that.”

Charman, who has suggested he believes he is the ideal candidate to succeed Colbran, will act as caretaker manager for the game against Sittingbourne tomorrow (Saturday November 16).
