Derby rivals draw a blank

SIDLEY United had to settle for a point from a drab goalless draw at home to Ringmer on Tuesday night.

Chances were at such a premium that the teams could have played all night and still wouldn't have managed to break the deadlock.

Sidley joint manager Peter Heritage said: "It never got going. I don't think there was any goalmouth action in the second half. On a positive note Ringmer are flying in the league at the moment and we kept a clean sheet."

The closest this Sussex Division One match came to producing a goal was 10 minutes before half time when the crossbar came to the home side's rescue.

A free-kick cannoned off the head of Graham Morris and looped onto the woodwork. The rebound fell to Darren Longley but his well-struck shot smacked into the chest of keeper Matt Shoesmith.

Sidley's immediate response was a quick break down the left which saw Kevin Rose fire a deflected cross into the six yard box. From the resultant corner Lee Wood had a wild swing at a bouncing ball and Paul Balch blazed over.

Sidley travel to Three Bridges on Saturday March 22 without the unavailable Adam Day, Owen Ball, Mark Freeman and captain Chris Copley.
