'Don't be scared of losing' '” Carl

WICK Football Club manager Carl Stabler wants his side to play without fear in their FA Vase clash against fellow County League opposition Eastbourne Town on Saturday.

Stabler led Littlehampton to the Vase semi-finals in 1991 and would love the chance to progress into the fourth round, when the competition is no longer regionalised. Since 1991, he has reached the fourth round with Littlehampton, Pagham and Wick '” when they lost a replay in Devon.

The winners will get 1,200 prize money and a place in the last 32 of the competition.

Stabler said: "It's the biggest game Wick have had for a while. It really is massive.

"In cup games, you need that little bit of luck and decisions to go your way but you also need players who are not afraid of losing. If we go into the game scared, we won't win anything. If we still get beat, we get beat but if we win, brilliant.

"We have nothing to lose. Eastbourne are the favourites and have really turned things around in the last four or five years. They are definitely one of the challengers for the County League title this season, along with Arundel and Whitehawk."
