Double delight for showjumper Nicki

ENJOYING double success is Barnham-based show jumper Nicki Bedford. She travelled to the Wales and West Show recently with her classy horse Bitteswell Soldier, for the Home Amateur Inter-Nations Show, winning their second team gold medal this year.

Previously Nicki had the satisfaction of seeing her home-bred yearling, Escobillo, rated as top showjumping yearling a Plumpton College.

Bitteswell Soldier is Nicki's highly successful eight-year-old German warmblood. Nicki has owned him for two years and at Wales and West they competed in the highest amateur class at 1.20m. On the first day, in a hotly contested first round, they came fifth, securing a place on the England team, which won the final.

Soldier was also fifth in the 1.20m speed class and fourth in the individuals, showing everyone a clean pair of heels all week. He has also qualified for the Foxhunter second rounds for 2011 and the National Finals at the Scope Festival in Stafford next month, where he will be aimed at B&C Classes and 1.30m.

Nicki's home-bred yearling, Escobillo, was awarded the highest show jumping score for his age at the Baileys Horse Feed/British Equestrian Federation (BEF) Futurity Evaluation, at Plumpton College, indicating he is destined to compete at the very top of his sport.
