Drastic measures for 25-stone Barton

Last year's Worthing CC captain, 32, wants to shed nearly half of his 25-stone weight during the course this season. During the winter, he suffered from three separate cases of blood posioning, meaning he rose to 25 from 19 stone.

He said: "I've got to do something about it and my aim is to lose 10 stone in six months. I'm embarrassed, but this way is the only way I'm going to do it now.

"I've tried several times before to lose weight but have never been able to do it. I haven't been under 19 stone for six years now. I reckon I can still play in the Sussex League Premier Division at 38 if I can get myself mega-fit."
