Eagles look for revival

The Eastbourne Eagles take on the Swindon Robins at Arlington on Monday evening (7.30pm) when they will be attempting to turn around a series of defeats.

Despite the loss of both Adam Shields and Brent Werner through injury, Eastbourne appeared to be making light of their difficulties with a string of confident performances. That was until the Robins came in late April and pulled off a crushing 55-41 victory.

Heavy defeats at Reading, Ipswich and Coventry and a home 48-42 reverse against the Bulldogs on Saturday have emphasised that there is no easy solution to Eagles's plight.

Nicki Pedersen rides in the Grand Prix at Cardiff's Millennium stadium tomorrow (Saturday) and it must be hoped he is back to his best after turning in a slightly jaded performance while suffering with injury against the Bulldogs last weekend.

He will need to be so against Leigh Adams, the Australian who turned in a virtuoso performance at Arlington last time around with a 15-point maximum. Another to watch is promising Pole Adrian Miedzinski, who proved a prolific reserve as the Robins racked up their impressive total against the Eagles.

One absentee from Swindon's last visit is Russian Renat Gafurov, who was injured in last weekend's round of World Team Cup fixtures.
