Eight locals make trip to Gateshead

Eight local athletes have been selected to represent the Sussex Schools athletics team at next week's All England Schools Championships at Gateshead.

There would have been a ninth, but Sussex Downs's triple jumper Annie Onions has had to turn down the invitation because of a previous commitment.

Sussex Downs College contribute senior 800 metres runner Dan Stepney and reigning intermediate 800m champion Emily Goodall.

Lewes pole-vaulters Chris Pilling (intermediate) and Sam Brown (junior) are joined by fellow Lewes athlete Jake Scanlon, who will be one of the favourites to take a medal in the intermediate discus throw.

Hailsham's Scott Harris (senior 1,500m), Sarah Moore (intermediate high jump) and Sacha Henty (intermediate 400m) are also included in the squad.
