The Hastings Athletic Club multi-eventer won a silver medal in the South of England Athletic Association Senior & Under 20 Indoor Championships at Lee Valley.

Lovell came second in the final of the senior women’s 60m hurdles in a personal best time of 8.71 - 0.11 seconds behind winner Karen Jean-Francois (Harrow AC).

It was 0.02 seconds quicker than Lovell clocked in the same event en route to finishing fifth in the senior women’s pentathlon at the England Indoor Combined Events Championships the previous weekend.

She said: “Again it was a bit of a shock. I think I was ranked sixth or seventh going into it so the aim was to make the final.

“All of them (the other runners) that were there were all specialist hurdlers and it’s really satisfying to think they commit 100% to hurdles and I have to fit six other events in as well.”

Lovell finished second to Jean-Francois in the initial heat and subsequent semi-final, as well as the final, with all three races held in the space of 90 minutes.

She led the final until smashing through the third hurdle with her knee and ankle. That setback dropped Lovell to sixth, but she rallied well to claw back four places by the finish.

Lovell has also achieved the qualifying standard in the 60m hurdles for the Indoor British Championships, which will take place in Sheffield on February 27 and 28.
