Emma Cooper won the Bowls England Women’s National Junior Pairs Championship alongside Lorraine Kuhler (Homefield Park Bowls Club) for the third time in four years last weekend.

The event had never been won by anyone more than once until Cooper and Kuhler clinched the title for the second time in 2013, so to win it a third time is outstanding.

They defeated Yorkshire’s Amy King and Hayley MacDonald 20-6 in Sunday’s final at Victoria Park, Royal Leamington Spa.

Cooper and Kuhler’s closest match came in the first round when they beat Wiltshire (Lucy and Katy Smith) 23-16. They then saw off Worcestershire (Sophie Inchley and Lauren Hilson) 19-9 in round two.

A 21-12 victory over Warwickshire (Kay Sabin and Kirsty Richards) followed in the quarter-finals and in the semi-finals they beat Kent (Rosina Hall and Stacey Carmichael) by the same score.

Cooper and Kuhler will now represent England in the British Isles Championships in Wales next year, alongside Commonwealth gold medal winner Sophie Tolchard, who is the National Junior Singles representative.

The 18-year-old edged out Sophie Coston (Berkshire) 21-19 in the first round and Katherine Rednall (Suffolk) by the same margin in round two before losing 21-11 to Anna Chalk (Norfolk).
