Emsworth sailors celebrate £50,000 boost

Emsworth Sailing Club, one of the oldest clubs in the area, have secured Olympic legacy funding from Sport England's Inspired Facilities Fund.

The Inspired Facilities fund is part of the £135m Places People Play programme taking the magic of the home Olympic and Paralympic Games into communities.

Every sports facility which receives funding will carry the London 2012 Inspire mark – celebrating the link to the Games.

Emsworth’s £50,000 grant will be a huge boost towards the estimated overall cost of a development project expected to cost around £450,000.

The scheme includes the refurbishment of changing rooms to give more space and a better hot water system, a whole new wet bar which will double as a training area, refurbishment of the existing bar and lounge area and a larger training room upstairs which opens on to a large sheltered balcony with spectacular views down harbour towards the Solent.

Sport England chairman Richard Lewis said: “This National Lottery investment will create a lasting sporting legacy for Emsworth Sailing Club.

“This fund has really hit the mark with sports clubs in the area. It shows we’re offering the legacy that people want for their local community. For hundreds of clubs and tens of thousands of people, 2012 will be the year their local sports facilities got better.”
