Entries for link road race hit 1,000

Entries for the Bexhill-Hastings Link Road 10K race have touched the 1,000 mark quicker than expected.

The unique one-off event, which is being organised by the Bexhill and Hastings Lions Clubs, will take place on Sunday September 20, starting at 10.30am.

The race will be a chance for runners to race on the Combe Valley Way, as the new £100m+ link road has been named, before it’s opened to traffic.

Based at Bexhill Leisure Centre, the run will start just north of the London Road junction and will head 5K out to Queensway in St Leonards and then 5K back to the start.

News of the event being held was first announced last September and interested runners could register at www.hastings-half.co.uk to be on a waiting list and be given first option to enter.

Just over 1,000 people signed up for the waiting list and more than 500 entries were received in the first couple of days of them being open following last month’s announcement of the race date.

Entries are open to all runners aged 15 upwards via the aforementioned website. All finishers will receive a special commemorative brass and a free souvenir programme will be available.

The organisers are grateful to Hochtief Taylor Woodrow Joint Venture, who have given permission for the event and are sponsoring the project.

The event will take place on the same day as the Big 10K race along Bexhill seafront. Entry for that race, which will start at 10am, can be made via www.big10k.co.uk
