EP demolition squad called in

EAST PRESTON dismantled leaders South Bersted & Bognor on their own ground and resumed the Division 4 leadership while Chippingdale maintained Eastergate's losing start and moved back into second place.

East Preston skipper Colin Smith asked Bersted to bat, his fielders held everything airborne and his bowlers divided out the entrails of their dismissal for 83.

Sussex Under-13 colt Darryl Rebbetts, 12, held the outstanding catch, running backwards from mid-on and diving.

Then EP's openers took care of 78 of the required runs.

Peter Dallimore's 54 included 10 fours while Kevin Smith nudged 23 and stayed to complete an eight-wicket win.

An early declaration on 215 for four was followed by early inroads by the Chipps attack and Ollie Hall bounced back from one expensive over to remove that violent adversary, Eastergate captain Alex Robinson, among his four victims.

Brother Tim Hall took a brilliant catch from a rash Robinson pull before he and under-16 colt, Lee Parsons, amassed four other wickets and Paul Dilley terminated the game by removing a wagging No 11.

The recent loss of another Challen, Gareth, to the Sussex League seems only to shorten Clymping's odds against relegation for a second successive season. And, they feel, all since they failed to enter the Sussex League but Pulborough did not.

Clymping lost by 53 runs away to Ram, for whom Rakesh made 88 with some airy shot-making. Graham Blann made a direct-hot run-out from cover point but Tom Pugh stepped over the boundary in catching Kartic who went on to second-top-score with 38.

Basher Blann's 43 out of 64 while at the crease and a fifth-wicket stand of 45 between Karl Pierce and Sam Orchard were Clymping's batting highlights.

Rustington missed strike bowler Kevin Rathbone. He became unavailable on the morning and, faced with Wisborough Green's gettable 175 for eight, despite having dropped 100-maker Dave Vallis, they started badly and subsided to 105 all out in reply.

No 10, Clive Mann, was their top-scorer on 29, out of their plight of 46 for eight. Ben Thatcher took seven for 41.
