EP LEAVE IT LATE - AGAIN

WHATEVER YOU do, never leave an East Preston match until the final whistle. Had you done so during their last two games, then you would have spent the next few days believing that they had dropped out of the promotion race.

With five minutes to go on Saturday at the Lashmar, EP were a goal down to already-promoted Shoreham, with no likelihood of getting back into the game, let alone winning it.

But the chances of first division football at East Preston were kept alive. Matt Huckett and Lee Farrell, who combined well up front all afternoon, worked an opening and Farrell's ball across the six-yard box was slotted home by an advancing Simon Clayton.

Time ticked away. Two minutes of injury-time had elapsed, nails were being bitten, and EP supporters held their breath. A free-kick was awarded wide on the left. Half-cleared, it fell to Mike Huckett, who fired in a shot from 25 yards which hit the bar and bounced down over Terry Fox in the Shoreham goal and nestled in the bottom corner.
