EP STRUGGLE PAST LOWLY EG

LIFE without Lee Farrell started with a win for East Preston on Saturday.

EP were poor for the first half, and East Grinstead took the lead on 27 minutes through Drew Conney's header from a corner.

Matt Huckett drew EP level on 43 minutes when he fired the ball home from six yards from brother Mike's right-wing cross.

Substitute Dave Walker struck the winner from an acute angle on 77 minutes, and from then on it was all EP.

Dan McLaughlin, Mike Huck-ett, and Josh Biggs all could have scored, but were denied by EG's keeper.

The game ended on a sour note for EP as defender Andy Appleton went off with a knee injury.

If it is the same ligament injury he suffered earlier in the season, he will miss the rest of the campaign.

EP boss Mark Chaplin said: "It's three points. In the first half we were struggling and didn't play well, but they are fighting away at the bottom.

"We were much better in the second half, and could have won by more."

EP are away to Worthing United on Saturday.
