Few days left to nominate Sussex sporting heroes

NOMINATIONS for the 12th annual Sussex Sports Awards are open.

People have until midday on Friday (October 17) to nominate those they believe worthy of picking up a prize at the ceremony at the Grand Hotel, Brighton, on Friday, November 21.

The event will celebrate the achievements and success stories from individuals, teams and clubs involved in Sussex sport and also boasts two new award categories.

At the 2013 Sussex Sports Awards, Matthew Weller of Selsey FC was named young coach of the year.

This prestigious black-tie event will again welcome a very special guest from the world of sport and entertainment – former freestyle and butterfly swimmer Mark Foster, who has six world championship titles, two Commonwealth titles and ten European gongs to his name and is arguably one of the UK’s most successful swimmers.

He will be on hand to introduce the winners and discuss his sporting experiences as he aims to inspire the audience.

The introduction of the two new awards, Primary School of the Year and Sportivate Project of the Year, completes the list of categories, which is:

Sadie Mason, CEO of Active Sussex, said: “This has been yet another huge year in UK sport. Our county was represented well at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, which once again demonstrates the high-calibre sporting personalities Sussex can develop.

“We have also witnessed the Invictus Games which puts sheer guts and determination firmly in the spotlight.

“We have, in abundance, a number of notable sporting talents across our county who all deserve to have their accomplishments recognised. That’s exactly what the Sussex Sports Awards does.”
