Finals day is stuff of champions

John Brook of Clive Vale finished well to claim the singles title. The final against Barry Nutton (Rosemount) had been level pegging at 13-all after 18 ends until Brook pulled away to win 21-14.

Cy Follington (Hastings Visually Handicapped), accompanied by caller and club captain Charles Donald, won the veterans singles 21-17 on the 22nd end, putting an end to the challenge of John Downie (Hastings) who had cut the deficit by notching seven shots on two ends after being stuck on 10 for six ends.

Ron Clark and Simon Moore (White Rock) clinched the pairs trophy with a thrilling 18-16 victory over St Leonards partnership Bob Knapp and Ken Beaney.

The White Rock duo was always just ahead but, at 14-11 up on the 17th end, Moore found himself in the critical position of being seven shots down but he responded by calmly taking the shot with his last bowl. The St Leonards pair hit back by picking up five shots on the last two ends but it was not enough.
