Findon follower backs vote for Rogers

THE HERALD has had a letter from a Findon resident and cricket fan in favour of the change being attempted at Long Furlong.

17 The Quadrangle, Findon.

Dear Sir,

As a long-standing supporter and follower of Findon Cricket Club in the National Village Cup competition - yes, I was one of the few to follow them to Essex!! (High Roding] - I think the election of John Rogers as captain, a guardian of good sportsmanship, is an absolutely excellent move.

Although lots of banter is heard in Test matches, etc, the amount of sledging from Findon I heard on my travels last year was absolutely appalling.

Findon will probably not be anywhere as successful as they have been, without the support of some of the senior players who represented the club last year, but their reputation as a club of honest good sportsmen would be paramount.

I wish John Rogers and the team all the best for the coming season, and look forward to my travels in their support in the Village Cup again.

Yours sincerely,

Barry & Michael Butterfield

Sports Editor's question: Steve Bailey and I combined to attend all bar the earliest rounds on the way to Lord's last summer and it puzzles us how a spectator is in a position to hear, let alone judge, the amount and content of sledging from the distance of the boundary rope.

Did Messrs Butterfield have the players, or the stumps, or maybe the umpires secretly miked up? We assume not, in which case we'd love to learn how this reader became so well informed on the matter.
