FINDON TAKE TITLE

Long Furlong was the scene of one of the most nailbiting finales in the league's history. Defending champions Findon had to wait for what seemed an eternity to discover if they had done enough for their fourth title running.

They saved their worst performance of the season for their last and most important league match and lost to local rivals Goring. They got only four points, but enough on a day they had begun eight points ahead of Arundel '”having hit the top for the just first time.

I was in regular contact with colleague Ben Steppel who was covering Arundel's final game at Ifield.

Findon skipper Nigel Waller won the toss and, aiming for maximum bowling points, then to bat to victory, put Goring in. Goring were having none of that and batted well, through 57 overs, forfeiting their own batting points, before captain Kevin Burgess called them in at 155 for seven.
