Planetbowls has proved a popular indoor concept for the country’s top bowlers in the last two years and Worthing Pavilion will host the event over the three-day bank holiday weekend.

There will be a bumper prize pot of more than £3,000 on offer, with the overall winner pocketing £1,500.

The event has been organised by Jack of Clubs Insurance, which is the trading name of Warwick Davis Insurance Consultants, and Davis believes the event will help keep Worthing on the bowls map, after the National Championships took place in the town for the final time last year.

He said: “After the National Championships was played for the last time in Worthing in September, it was an ambition to get a tournament like this.

“Hopefully, it will be a sign of things to come and we hope to make it an annual event.

“I’m looking forward to it. We’ve got 90 bowlers entered and it’s the first competition of its kind, so we’ll see how it goes.

“We’ve got the best greens here in the south of England and have people coming from all over the country to take part. There will be a lot of the country’s top bowlers here.

“It will help generate money for the local economy as well – not like the two weeks when we had the National Championships – but it’s something.”
