FIRST LOSS FOR WORTHING

Worthing Cricket Club, who hadn't dropped a point in their two opening matches, were undone by Cuckfield in a match reduced by rain to 28 overs per side. After last week's unpleasant encounter, the Manor Ground was happily sledge-free, with both sides keen to get some play after a very wet morning.

When the pitch covering was dragged off, mid-afternoon, Danny Barton crucially lost the toss. Shortened matches generally favour sides batting second, and it was no surprise that Worthing were invited to go in first at 3.30pm. After losing Ollie Rogers early on, John Kaye and Blayne Cornford proceeded at five runs an over, building a partnership of 81.
