Fontwell Park boss is racing ahead with promotion

Northern Racing, the owners of Fontwell Park, have awarded racecourse manager Phil Bell the title of executive director.

Bell, 45, has been general manager at the West Sussex track since 2002.

Earlier this year Fontwell Park was named racecourse of the year at an industry awards ceremony and last year a new £6.5m Premier Grandstand opened at the course.

Bell will also become a non-executive director at Brighton racecourse, a track he once managed.

Northern Racing own and operate ten racecourses in the UK.

Group managing director Tony Kelly said “Phil Bell is synonymous with racing in this part of the world and he has over many years been a major factor in the success of both Brighton and Fontwell Park.

“His promotion is well-deserved and in addition his experience will add considerable value to the management team at Brighton racecourse.”

Meanwhile Bell and his team are preparing for one of their biggest fixtures – Ladies’ Night, on Thursday, August 18, when the best-dressed lady will win £2,000.

A six-race card starts at 5.20pm and after racing there’s live music from The Magic of Motown. Entry is from £17 – call 01243 543335 for more.
