Fontwell Park unveil plans for £100,000 jump-racing festival

Fontwell signs off before its summer break tonight (June 9) buoyed by news of a two-day £100,000 festival later in the year.

The popular track will host a two-day event on Friday, September 30, and Saturday, October 1, which will aim to become an early highlight of the jump racing season.

The course is pooling its own money with that of sponsors to attract top trainers and owners to the meeting.

Fontwell Park general manager Phil Bell said: “The first day will have a Best of British theme, with real ale, Pearly kings and bangers and mash. Day two will be our annual Irish Day.

“It should be a fantastic couple of days’ racing.”

The card begins at 6.30pm with the 150% Bonus @ 888sport.com Beginners Chase, in which grade one-winning hurdler Barizan should have too many guns for his rivals on his fencing bow.

In the Hardings Catering Services Handicap Chase at 7.30, Andrew Thornton on Lansdowne Princess go for a remarkable third Fontwell victory in a month.
