FOOTBALL: 10-man Rebels lose at Croydon

WORTHING Football Club had captain Paul Kennett sent-off as they lost 3-1 at fellow Ryman League Division 1 South high-flyers Croydon Athletic on Saturday (December 12).

Rebels are still second in the table but are now four points behind leaders Folkestone, who got a late winner at home to Walton & Hersham.

Rebels had arguably the better chances in the first half, with Evan Archibald twice going close, but the game was 0-0 at half-time.

Croydon went ahead on 49 minutes when former Rebel Scott Forrester brilliantly volleyed home Chris Bourne's corner.

Kennett was then booked for a foul on Tom Bolarinwa on 52 minutes and Croydon doubled their lead through Tom Davis' sweet strike from 20 yards.

Kennett received his marching orders on 57 minutes when he received his second booking for a foul on Danny Waldren.

Rebels got back into the game on 66 minutes when the impressive Ben Williamson turned the ball home after Matt Simpson headed on Ben Johnson's corner.

But Croydon hit Worthing on the break four minutes later when Waldren drilled home from the edge of the penalty area.

Jamie Groves came on his Rebels debut in the second half and Simpson also made his first appearance of the season since re-joining from Horsham YMCA.
